Keyword Independent Aspects of SEO |
What are keyword independent aspects of search engine optimisation? Generally speaking, all technical prerequisites of a web page as regards search engines:
- A web page has to be readable for machines, the so called robots. Robots calculate the position for every page in their index for a given keyword. They only consider text.
- The architecture of a web page has to be as flat as possible. The lower a page within a website, the lower the rank on the result page.
- Url-addresses have to be search engine friendly. The should be as short as possible and include the main keyword of the page.
- Pictures and animations can not be analysed by search engines. In order to get a good rank, you need high quality, search engine friendly text. Flash pages are nice but unreadable for search engines.
- Errors in the source text can have a negative effect on the ranking. Avoid dead links.
- Link popularity stands for the relevance of a website. The more external links your page has the higher will be your ranking.
If you ignore these points, all efforts for serach engine optimisation are useless. That is why individual SEO efforts for an already existing website often do not reach their goal. In this case, consider constructing a new website. The keyword independent aspects are not part of the job of the texter or translator. But a close collaboration between the texter and the webdesigner are a prerequesite.
